Trials against racism in Munich nightlife

Last year, in cooperation with the Munich Foreigners’ Advisory Council, Hamado Dipama conducted a test action in 25 Munich nightclubs and discos on April 19, 2013 and April 20, 2013 with six friends of different origins and with the journalist IsabelIe Hartmann from Bayerischer Rundfunk. The result was devastating. Of the total of 25 clubs and discos visited, the campaign participants of African and Turkish origin were granted admission to only 5 of the 25 venues, while the comparison persons were admitted to every club without exception. Now the Munich District Court has come to the astonishing conclusion that there is no evidence of discrimination against the plaintiff Hamado Dipama. The Munich Foreigners’ Advisory Council has issued the following press release on this scandalous court decision. Continue reading

After scientists who are engaged in gender and sexuality research were insulted in the strongest sexist and homophobic way and personally threatened because of their sexual pedagogical publications in the last weeks in media like Facebook, in blogs and with e-mails, colleagues and initiatives declare their solidarity by declarations of solidarity. These then in turn become the target of hostility. Even the university establishment has been moved to issue a statement in light of the scale of the attacks.

Open letter to Heimathafen Neukölln “We are not ‘gooks'”!

The association Korientation e.V., together with a large alliance of organizations and individuals, has written an open letter to the Heimathafen Neukölln, thus reigniting the public debate on anti-Asian racism:

“We have learned to our dismay that until February 04, 2014, over a longer period of time, despite complaints received, the Heimathafen Neukölln has shown in the context of its exhibition “I love NK” a picture that is undoubtedly hurtful to Asian people. In this photo, a blond white woman wearing a white Heimathafen T-shirt with the imprint “I love NK” can be seen in an East Asian-looking park. Her grinning face reproduces an old and very disparaging racist stereotype by pulling her eyes up into “slits” with her fingers. […]”

Anything but knorke!

The Berlin band Knorkator advertises their latest record with racist motifs and the slogan “We want Mohr”. We heard it on radioeins, saw it in Berlin’s streets and couldn’t believe our ears and eyes, but did nothing. Fortunately, not everyone has remained inactive: for example, the Initiative Black People in Germany has written a statement and the blogger Atif Hussein has exchanged letters with radioeins – rbb.
